On Random Coding Error Exponents of Watermarking Codes

steganography, watermarking, information hiding, error exponent, random coding Watermarking codes are analyzed from an informationtheoretic viewpoint as a game between an information hider and an active attacker. While the information hider embeds a secret message (watermark) in a covertext message (typically, text, image, sound, or video stream) within a certain distortion level, the attacker processes the resulting watermarked message, within limited additional distortion, in an attempt to invalidate the watermark. For a memoryless covertext source, we provide a single-letter characterization of the minimax-maximin game of the random coding error exponent associated with the average probability of erroneously decoding the watermark. This single-letter characterization is in effect because there is a “memoryless saddle point” in this game: The information hider utilizes a memoryless channel to generate random codewords for every covertext message, whereas the attacker implements a memoryless channel to disrupt the watermark information hidden in the covertext.

We consider ensembles of channel codes that are partitioned into bins, and focus on analysis of exact random coding error exponents associated with optimum decoding of the index of the bin to which the transmitted codeword belongs. Two main conclusions arise from this analysis: (i) for independent random selection of codewords within a given type class, the random coding exponent of optimal bin...
متن کاملOn achievable error exponents for watermarking
Probability-of-error exponents have recently been derived for watermarking systems based on spread-spectrum and quantization-index modulation methods. This paper takes this work one step further and presents minmax error exponents for any embedding scheme and any attack (subject to distortion constraints) at all rates below capacity. The decoders used are universal: they do not know the attack ...
متن کاملError exponents of typical random codes
We define the error exponent of the typical random code as the long–block limit of the negative normalized expectation of the logarithm of the error probability of the random code, as opposed to the traditional random coding error exponent, which is the limit of the negative normalized logarithm of the expectation of the error probability. For the ensemble of uniformly randomly drawn fixed comp...
متن کاملA Note on Performance of Generalized Tail Biting Trellis Codes
Tail biting trellis codes and block concatenated codes are discussed from random coding arguments. Error exponents and decoding complexity for generalized tail biting (GTB) random trellis codes, and their relationships are derived, where the GTB trellis codes consist of full tail biting (FTB) trellis codes, partial tail biting (PTB) trellis codes and direct truncated (DT) trellis codes. We show...
متن کاملError exponents for maximum-likelihood and successive decoders for the Gaussian CDMA channel
Random-coding error exponents are derived for the Gaussian code-division multiple-access (CDMA) channel for the maximum-likelihood and optimum successive decoders. Error exponents not only specify the capacity region of the channel, which is known, but also give lower bounds on the rate of exponential decay of the average probability of error as a function of the block length of random codes. A...
